Intel, Palestinian welcome for Hamas’s response, calls for further progress to end genocide in Gaza Strip

The response of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to cease the war on Gaza was widely welcomed by Palestinians and the international community.

A number of world leaders renewed their calls to move forward to end the genocide committed by the Israeli enemy in the Gaza Strip for nearly two years.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced last Friday evening its agreement to release prisoners, both alive and dead, in accordance with US President Donald Trump’s proposal, and to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian body (technocrats). It linked the rest of the Trump proposal to what it considered a “comprehensive Palestinian national position.”

While US President Donald Trump welcomed Hamas’s response, the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised Hamas’s “response to the plan, which paves the way for a full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, creates conditions for reconstruction, prevents the displacement of the Palestinian people, and supports efforts aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace.”

For its part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed that Hamas’s response to the Gaza ceasefire plan was a “constructive and important step.” He called on Israel to immediately halt all attacks, adhere to the ceasefire plan, and take all steps without delay to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and achieve lasting peace.

He added, “This genocide and this shameful spectacle that deeply wounds the global conscience must now end.”

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry also welcomed Hamas’s response on Saturday, stating in a post on the X platform that: “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhammad Ishaq Dar discussed, during a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aty today, ongoing diplomatic efforts, including consultations among Arab and Islamic countries in New York, aimed at ensuring an immediate and lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring unhindered access for humanitarian aid.”

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry also welcomed Hamas’s “positive” response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war on the Gaza Strip.

It commended “the pivotal role of the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar in efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement.”

While UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his satisfaction with Hamas’s response, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said that the rare and welcome momentum toward a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip gives the United Nations a glimmer of hope to address the famine and the suffering of more than two million people facing indescribable needs.

In Palestine, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement affirmed on Saturday that the response submitted by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) to the Trump plan expresses the position of the Palestinian resistance forces.

The movement said in a press statement that “the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine participated responsibly in the consultations that led to this decision.”

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine affirmed that Hamas’s response to the American proposal was patriotic and responsible and paves the way for an end to the aggression. In a press statement, the Front stressed that “what is important now is the enemy’s commitment to halting the aggression and implementing the stages of the agreement, which will pave the way for a comprehensive cessation of aggression, a full withdrawal, and a complete breaking of the siege, leading to a clear Palestinian political path that protects the rights of our people.”

While the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine welcomed Hamas’s responsible position on US President Donald Trump’s plan, the Resistance Committees in Palestine praised “the serious and responsible national stance and the great commitment shown by Hamas on behalf of the Palestinian resistance factions, demonstrating the utmost degree of flexibility necessary to ensure the success of the mediators’ efforts to reach an agreement to stop the Zionist war and aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”

The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement also praised and commended “the response provided by Hamas, which reflects the position of the Palestinian resistance factions, characterized by national responsibility and a commitment to stopping the crime of genocide and starvation to which our steadfast people in the Gaza Strip are subjected.”

In a joint statement, the Palestinian resistance factions affirmed that “the response presented by Hamas to the American proposal is the result of a responsible national stance, which came after in-depth consultations with the Palestinian resistance factions to reach an agreement that serves the interests of our people and ensures an end to their suffering and the cessation of the ongoing genocide against them.”

Furthermore, the Gaza Center for Human Rights announced on Saturday that it had documented 59 Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since US President Donald Trump’s demand to halt the bombing following Hamas’s submission of its response to his plan to cease the war.

The center explained in a statement, according to the Sanad News Agency, that its field team documented 59 air and artillery strikes by Israeli forces in less than 16 hours following Trump’s demand, targeting densely populated areas, civilian neighborhoods, and vital facilities, including residential homes, shops, main roads, and service facilities.

The center stated that these attacks resulted in the deaths of 34 Palestinians, including 27 in Gaza City, 5 in Khan Yunis, and 2 in the central Gaza Strip. Dozens more were injured, including women and children, and widespread destruction of private and public property occurred.

The center emphasized that the continuation of these attacks proves that the Israeli enemy authorities continue to commit crimes that amount to war crimes and genocide, ignoring all calls to halt this genocide, including the recent demand of the US President.
