Tehran condemns U.S. military aggression against Venezuela, warns of its consequences

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday condemned the U.S. military aggression against Venezuela, warning of its repercussions on the entire international order, noting that it would further accelerate the erosion and collapse of the United Nations–based system.

In a statement posted on its X account and monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the U.S. military attack on an independent state and UN member constitutes a serious violation of regional and international peace and security.

It added that the U.S. aggression is a blatant example of an “act of aggression that must be immediately and unequivocally condemned by the United Nations and all states committed to the rule of law and to international peace and security.”

The statement stressed the international and UN responsibility to immediately halt the illegal U.S. aggression against Venezuela, underscoring the need to take necessary measures to hold accountable those who planned and carried out crimes committed during the military attack.

Earlier on Saturday, explosions rocked central Caracas, accompanied by the overflight of warplanes and rising columns of smoke following a U.S. bombardment.

Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and their removal from the country.

Trump wrote in a post on the “Truth Social” platform: “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, and U.S. law enforcement authorities participated in the operation,” as he claimed.
