Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil announced on Saturday that Colombia has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council following the U.S. aggression against Venezuela.
In a post on his Telegram channel, reviewed by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), Gil said:
“I spoke by phone with Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio, who conveyed the solidarity of the Colombian government and people with the Venezuelan people, who are facing a criminal and illegal attack by the United States.”
He added:
“As a member of the UN Security Council, Colombia has requested the convening of an emergency meeting so that the Council can act immediately to stop the attacks on Venezuela’s territorial and political sovereignty.”
Earlier on Saturday, explosions rocked central Caracas, accompanied by the flight of warplanes and rising plumes of smoke following U.S. airstrikes.
Earlier the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and their removal from the country.
In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, Trump wrote:
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, and U.S. law enforcement authorities participated in the operation.”
