Palestinian Journalists Syndicate Condemns Israeli Enemy Measures Against Jerusalemite Press

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate condemned on Tuesday the escalatory measures taken by the Israeli enemy authorities against journalists and media institutions in occupied Jerusalem.

The Syndicate considered in a statement that the escalatory Zionist measures come within the framework of a systematic policy aimed at restricting press freedom and obliterating the Palestinian narrative, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).

It affirmed that it has documented the issuance of removal orders from the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque against ten journalists and photographers, in an attempt to prevent them from performing their professional duty in covering events inside and around the mosque.

It pointed to the decision issued by the so-called “Israeli enemy War Minister” banning four Palestinian media outlets and platforms and classifying them as “terrorist entities,” and the subsequent prosecution, summons, and threats against their workers, explaining that the targeted institutions are: Al-Aasima Media Network, Al-Bousala, Ma’araj, and Quds Plus.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate also condemned the arrest of journalist Nisreen Salem, and her interrogation for several days, before releasing her under conditions including house arrest and a ban from using the phone and social media, considering these restrictions a flagrant violation of freedom of opinion and expression and a direct assault on her right to practice her journalistic work.

The Syndicate stressed that these measures constitute a violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions concerning the protection of journalists.

It called on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and all international institutions concerned with media freedom to urgently intervene to stop these violations and guarantee press freedom in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
