Iranian source denies Trump’s claims that any US or allied ships passed through Strait of Hormuz

An Iranian source confirmed Thursday evening that “Trump has been repeating a showy claim for days that Iran gave him a generous gift,” and that “today he claims that the passage of ships through the strait is the greatest gift.”

The Iranian source told Al-Mayadeen TV that “ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz via the secure route established by Iran,” emphasizing that “no American ship or ship belonging to the US’s allies in the aggression was able to pass through the strait.”

The source indicated that “the ships that were allowed to pass were those belonging to countries that initiated contact with Iran and officially coordinated with it regarding the passage of their ships and their cargo.”

The Iranian source added that “there are private bilateral exchanges between Iran and the countries whose ships were allowed to pass through the strait, and there is no need to announce or discuss them.”

US President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that “Iran has given the United States a gift: the passage of 10 oil tankers flying the Pakistani flag through the Strait of Hormuz.”
