Syria: Families Displaced Following Israeli Bombing of Western Daraa Countryside

Families from the village of Abdeen in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa countryside have fled to safer areas after the village was shelled by Israeli forces with heavy weapons and machine guns, causing widespread fear and panic among civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday that Israeli forces shelled the village with artillery, coinciding with intensive helicopter activity and machine gun fire in the area. This followed residents’ confrontation with Israeli forces who had entered the village, throwing stones in protest against their presence.

This escalation comes hours after tensions in Abdeen, during which residents blocked the road to Israeli patrols before Israeli forces fired into the air and withdrew from the area.

Villages in the Yarmouk Basin are experiencing heightened alert and anxiety, with residents fearing a continued escalation and a wider expansion of military operations in western Daraa countryside.
