Yemen’s Parliament urges Legislatures to help create conditions for implementing roadmap

Yemen’s House of Representatives has called on Arab and foreign parliaments, as well as regional and international parliamentary unions, to play their role in supporting peace efforts and backing initiatives aimed at easing the suffering of the Yemeni people.

In a statement issued today, the House urged these parliamentary bodies to encourage the Saudi regime to honor its commitments, implement the agreed roadmap, act in a manner that serves regional security and stability. It also called on Saudi Arabia not to follow the lead of countries that have normalized relations with Israel , remain under U.S. influence, and to disregard what it described as false media claims alleging that Sana’a had refused to sign the roadmap.

The statement said the House is closely following the continued deadlock in the political process aimed at ending the suffering of the Yemeni people, attributing it to the failure to implement the commitments contained in the roadmap, which it described as the foundation for building confidence and creating the conditions necessary for launching a comprehensive political process leading to a just and lasting peace.

It added that the roadmap had been viewed as an important step toward a comprehensive ceasefire, improving humanitarian and economic conditions, paying public sector salaries, and resuming the political process in line with the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security and stability. However, the failure to fulfill those commitments has prolonged political stagnation, extended humanitarian suffering, and complicated efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement.

The House stressed that the continuation of the current situation requires the regional and international communities to intensify efforts in support of the peace process and ensure implementation of the agreed commitments, thereby strengthening confidence and paving the way for a serious and inclusive political process based on the agreed roadmap while preserving the unity, sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen.

It reaffirmed Sana’a’s commitment to a just and comprehensive peace, describing it as the strategic choice that serves the interests of the Yemeni people, ends more than a decade of suffering, lays the foundation for a new phase of stability and development that fulfills the aspirations of Yemenis to build a safe and stable state.

The House also urged Arab and foreign parliaments, along with regional and international parliamentary unions, to reassess their positions regarding the ongoing aggression and blockade against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples, adopt unified and firm positions, and put an end to what it described as US – Israeli arrogance in the region.

The statement further condemned what it called Arab and Islamic silence over the attacks and violations against the peoples of the region, while noting that people around the world have taken to the streets to denounce the crimes and massacres committed against them. It said Arab and Islamic countries should have taken clear positions against the killing of children, women, and the elderly, and against depriving them of food and medicine.
