Yemen Reaffirms Right to End Blockade, Rejects Red Sea Militarization

Chairman of Yemen’s Shura Council Mohammed Hussein Al-Eidrous reaffirmed Yemen’s right to take legitimate measures to protect its sovereignty and end the Saudi aggression blockade.

He said the aggression stems from the Saudi aggression intervention and blockade imposed since 2015, accusing Saudi Arabia of failing to implement the 2022 UN-backed roadmap and contributing to the current deadlock.

He confirmed Yemen’s Red Sea measures are intended to support Gaza and pressure Saudi Arabia to end the blockade, stressing that they target Israeli-linked and Saudi vessels rather than international commercial shipping.

Al-Eidrous also rejected further militarization of the Red Sea, calling on Arab and African parliaments to support efforts to lift the blockade and advance a political solution.

Saudi Arabia has announced a new maritime coalition in the Red Sea as it seeks to bolster the security of its shipping lanes amid the continuing impact of Yemen’s “blockade for blockade” campaign. The coalition comes after weeks of reported disruptions to Saudi maritime traffic, energy infrastructure, and air transport, following restrictions imposed by the Yemeni Armed Forces.

Sana’a maintains that the measures will remain in force until the blockade on Yemen is lifted, considering them part of a broader strategy to pressure Riyadh into ending its policies toward the country.
