Armed Forces: Saudi Strikes on Mawiyeh Market Will Have Serious Consequences for Saudi Arabia

Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Sare’e said that the Saudi warplanes carried out several airstrikes on Yemeni provinces on Sunday, including an attack on a market in Taiz that left nearly 50 people killed or wounded, according to an initial toll.

In a statement the Armed Forces stated that a Saudi F-15 fighter formation took off from Khamis Mushait Air Base and flew toward Taiz, carrying out two strikes on Taiz Market at the Mawiyeh junction. The Armed Forces described the attack as targeting civilians and said it resulted in nearly 50 casualties.

The Armed Forces added that the Saudi aircraft left Taiz airspace and headed toward Al Jawf, where it carried out four strikes on Khub wa Al Sha’af District before returning to Khamis Mushait.

The Armed Forces stressed that the deaths and injuries caused by the strike on Mawiyeh Market would, in his words, have serious consequences for Saudi Arabia, vowing that those responsible would face repercussions.

Saudi Arabia has conducted air operations in Yemen as part of its military intervention in the country since 2015. Yemeni Armed Forces have repeatedly reported civilian casualties and damage to markets and other civilian infrastructure in Saudi airstrikes, while Saudi Arabia claims its military operations as targeting military threats and infrastructure.
