Telecom Ministry: Saudi Airstrikes Put 902 Telecom Sites Out of Service

Yemen’s Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology has strongly condemned continued and deliberate Saudi airstrikes targeting telecommunications stations, towers and networks across the country.

In a statement, the ministry said that the attacks were systematically damaging infrastructure, causing civilian casualties and depriving citizens of essential services. It reported that the latest escalation had put 902 telecommunications sites and stations out of service.

The ministry stressed that telecommunications is an entirely civilian service sector providing services to citizens across all Yemeni provinces without exception. It dismissed justifications for targeting the sector as false pretexts intended to isolate Yemen from the outside world and pave the way for further violations.

The ministry held Saudi Arabia responsible for the continued targeting of telecommunications networks and warned of the consequences of any further attacks on the sector and its facilities.

Telecommunications infrastructure is essential for civilian connectivity, emergency communications and access to basic services. Damage to stations and networks can disrupt communications across affected areas and hinder residents’ access to vital services.
