Iran Navy: Another Violating Tanker Set Ablaze After Hitting Mine in Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian Navy says another tanker violating Iran’s maritime regulations caught fire after striking a naval mine in the eastern Strait of Hormuz.

The public relations office of the Navy said in a statement that the incident occurred before noon on Sunday.

It said the tanker had switched off its identification systems and was sailing through a prohibited area when it struck the mine.

The Iranian Navy warned that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed to vessels violating Iranian regulations until all threats had been removed.

It was the fourth oil tanker to hit mines in the strategic waterway on Sunday.

In a separate statement, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy reported that three tankers had struck naval mines and caught fire in the Strait on Sunday.

Iranian armed forces have maintained control over transit through the Strait of Hormuz, requiring prior authorization and restricting safe passage to designated northern corridors.

Southern routes near Omani waters have been declared unauthorized and mined.

Iran imposed the restrictions on the strategic waterway in response to the US-Israeli aggression that began on February 28.

Since then, Iranian forces have repeatedly intercepted or neutralized vessels attempting unauthorized passage, including ships linked to the Israeli regime or operating with US backing.

The IRGC has repeatedly stressed that only vessels complying with Iranian regulations can transit safely, warning that those serving the interests of the aggressors will face consequences.
