The Head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs Abdulqader Al-Murtada said the committee had confirmed reports that Saudi-backed mercenaries in Aden sold some prisoners captured in recent battles, who were then transferred by Saudi Arabia to Mukalla and subsequently to Saudi Arabia.
In a statement to Saba, Al-Murtada described the act as a crime against prisoners, exposing the extent of dependence on Saudi Arabia by those calling themselves the legitimate government.
He said the incident demonstrated that these mercenaries act as tools of Saudi Arabia and lack independent decision-making, even on prisoner affairs.
Al-Murtada held Saudi Arabia fully responsible for the lives and safety of all prisoners on various fronts.
He called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to investigate the incident, pressure Saudi Arabia to disclose the prisoners’ whereabouts, and allow visits to verify their safety.
