Al-Murtada: We are ready to implement prisoner exchange agreement, & other side is one obstructing its implementation
The head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs, Abdulqadir Al-Murtada, confirmed the committee’s readiness to implement the prisoner exchange agreement.
Al-Murtada stated in a remark reported by Al-Masirah Channel, “The delay in the prisoner lists is not from our side; our lists were ready since the last Muscat round. The other side is the one who delayed submitting the prisoner lists within the specified timeframe according to the Muscat agreement.”
He indicated that there is a difference among the parties affiliated with Saudi Arabia regarding implementing the prisoner exchange deal. Some parties affiliated with Saudi Arabia want to implement the deal, but other parties do not want to implement it at the moment due to political calculations and differences among them.
He expressed hope that the United Nations’ efforts would bear fruit in pushing for the implementation of the prisoner exchange agreement, saying, “We are ready to implement the agreement and prepared to deal positively and sincerely to implement it.”
Al-Murtada explained that exchanging lists is the most difficult stage in all previous agreements and takes time, especially with the other side’s issues. He affirmed that the other side is not a single party but multiple parties, and each party holds a group of prisoners.
He added, “We concluded the agreement based on its full implementation, not partial implementation, and this is what we aim for, God willing, in the coming period.”
