Armed Forces mourn jihadi commander Major General al-Ghamari, several companions

Yemen’s Armed Forces announced on Thursday that Major General Mohammed AbdulKareem al-Ghamari was martyred along with several of his companions and his son, Hussein, during airstrikes carried out over two years in “Operation Flood of al-Aqsa.”

In an official statement released by the military, the forces said al-Ghamari — described as a jihadi commander — fell “while performing his jihadist duties.” His son Hussein, aged 13, was also reported martyred.

The statement paid tribute to “a large number of noble martyrs, civilian and military,” lost across the navy, army and missile forces during the two-year campaign of support for Palestinians in Gaza.

The Armed Forces said the campaign conducted a total of 758 operations using 1,835 weapons systems, including ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missiles, drones and naval craft, as part of what it called the “Promised Victory and the Sacred Jihad” to assist Palestinian fighters and defend Muslim holy sites.

Naval forces conducted 346 operations across the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, striking more than 228 vessels that the statement identified as violating Yemen’s blockade on Israeli shipping.

Air defenses claimed to have shot down 22 U.S. MQ-9 reconnaissance drones, carried out 40 aerial interception operations and launched more than 57 counter-strikes against the enemy’s aircraft, including strategic bombers, the statement said.

Opening with Qur’anic verses and religious language, the statement framed Yemen’s involvement as a religious and moral duty to support the Palestinians and described the campaign’s sacrifices as a source of national pride and spiritual consolation. It praised the continuity of armed operations and vowed that the movement’s fighters and leaders would press on until their stated objectives — including the “liberation of Jerusalem” and the “end of the Israeli entity” — were achieved.

The statement called the losses “honourable” and praised the martyrdom of commanders and fighters as fuelling future generations to continue the struggle. It concluded with prayers for the martyrs and wishes for victory for the Palestinian and Yemeni peoples.
