Civil Defense in Gaza: Thousands of bodies remain under rubble due to lack of heavy equipment

The spokesman for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Basal, confirmed on Monday that the removal of rubble and the rescue of the missing are proceeding very slowly due to a shortage of heavy equipment.

Basal explained in press statements carried by Quds Press that only one excavator is currently operating in the central region of the Strip.

He stated that due to the lack of necessary equipment and tools to address the disaster, it is planned to transfer this excavator later to operate in the Gaza and North Gaza governorates.

He pointed out that the Civil Defense receives daily requests from citizens to search for their relatives trapped under the rubble, warning of the continued slowness of rescue operations due to the lack of equipment and resources needed to deal with the massive scale of the destruction.

Since October 7, 2013, the Israeli enemy, with American and European support, has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip, including killing, starvation, destruction, displacement, and arrests, ignoring international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop it.

The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deaths of 70,103 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom are children and women, and injuries to 170,986 others to date, in a preliminary count, as thousands of victims remain trapped under rubble and in the streets, inaccessible to rescue and ambulance crews.

A ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect on October 10th, following a two-year Israeli war of genocide. However, the Israeli army continues to violate the agreement daily and still prevents the entry of most humanitarian aid into the Strip.
