Cuba attacks Washington’s attempts to revive the “Monroe Doctrine” and affirms rejection of hegemony over Latin America
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez attacked on Tuesday the United States’ attempts to revive the Monroe Doctrine in its modern form and its “Trump addendum,” considering that it ignores the history of Latin America and the true role of the Global South.
The Monroe Doctrine, declared in 1823 by US President James Monroe, is based on the principle of preventing European intervention in the affairs of the Americas, in exchange for Washington’s pledge not to intervene in European affairs.
Rodriguez added in a post on X monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the US Secretary of War is seeking to impose a false collective security map on “Our America,” based on the principle of “peace through strength.”
He affirmed that these policies not only target the unity of Latin American and Caribbean countries but also aim to weaken the Global South in its pursuit of establishing a new, democratic, inclusive, and just international order based on justice, cooperation, and solidarity as a foundation for achieving sustainable development for all.
