Deputy FM meets with director of office of UN SG’s special envoy to Yemen

 Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras met on Tuesday with Mohammed Al-Ghannam, Director of the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, to discuss areas of cooperation between the Ministry and the Special Envoy’s office.

During the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated Sana’a’s commitment to achieving a lasting and comprehensive peace in Yemen. He expressed hope that the implementation of the prisoner exchange agreement would contribute to tangible progress on other humanitarian issues and positively impact peace efforts.

He commended the role played by the Special Envoy’s office in the success of the prisoner exchange agreement, noting Sana’a’s readiness to move forward with implementing the humanitarian agreement, which is a priority for the revolutionary and political leadership.

Abu Ras stressed the need to rectify the UN’s approach in Yemen to restore confidence, serve the Yemeni people, and alleviate their humanitarian suffering caused by the aggression and blockade imposed on Yemen since March 26, 2015.

He noted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ readiness to provide all necessary support to organizations operating in Yemen to implement their projects on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to continuing its efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.
