Deputy FM warns against infringing on Yemen’s sovereign wealth

Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras affirmed that the Sana’a government is closely monitoring Saudi Arabia’s moves to seize control of Yemen’s sovereign wealth.

In a statement , Abu Ras indicated that the Saudi regime believes that by occupying and recently consolidating control over some Yemeni governorates, exploiting the divisions among Yemeni factions, and controlling mercenaries, it can legitimize its actions aimed at plundering the country’s resources. He stressed that this belief is mistaken and will not lead to any positive outcome.

He emphasized that any agreements concluded with mercenaries are null and void and have no legal effect. He affirmed that the Yemeni people have the right to manage their resources, determine their development options, and choose their economic partners, in accordance with their supreme national interests. Any course of action that disregards this fact is doomed to failure.

He said, “The Saudi regime should have halted its aggression and lifted its blockade on the Yemeni people instead of continuing its escalatory steps that infringe upon the country’s sovereignty and resources.”

The Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that this Saudi approach is similar to what the United States is currently doing by waging wars to plunder the wealth of nations. He explained that one of the undeclared objectives of the aggression against Yemen is to loot its resources, prevent it from utilizing them, and weaken it economically.

He reiterated that Yemen will spare no effort in preserving its national wealth and protecting it from any attempt to infringe upon it.
