Foreign Affairs Ministry affirms its rejection, condemnation of statement by spokesperson of UN Secretary-General

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed its categorical rejection and condemnation of the statement by the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, which addressed the issue of the UN employees arrested for espionage.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the UN Secretary-General should have requested that the United Nations be informed of conclusive evidence of serious espionage acts committed by some World Food Programme and UNICEF employees, which led to the targeting of state leaders, including the Prime Minister of the Government of Change and Reconstruction and a number of government members.

This should be done instead of rushing to deny the truth of this heinous crime and other crimes committed under the guise of aid, exploiting the suffering of the Yemeni people as a result of the ongoing aggression and blockade.

The Ministry reiterated its call to the United Nations, all its agencies, programs, and funds, and all its employees, to dissociate themselves from hostile acts and activities that constitute a violation of their mandate, tasks, and functions.

The statement pointed out that what undermines humanitarian work is the violation by some UN organizations of their mandate and the principles of humanitarian action, including neutrality, independence, and integrity.

They have also positioned themselves as a vehicle for legitimizing espionage activities on behalf of countries and entities hostile to the Republic of Yemen and threatening its national security, primarily the United States of America and the enemy Israeli entity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on the United Nations and its Secretary-General to adhere to the UN Charter and international law and to address the imbalances plaguing the international organization, which are likely to further weaken its reputation and international standing, making it vulnerable and a victim of ongoing security breaches by some international powers.

It expressed its appreciation and high regard for the humanitarian work of many international organizations committed to its mandate and humanitarian goals, as well as to the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Yemen. It affirmed that it would spare no effort in cooperating with them and facilitating their humanitarian activities and programs.

At the same time, it would deal firmly and strictly with any espionage or hostile activities aimed at undermining the security, stability, and sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and its citizens.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that there is no immunity for spies, saboteurs, or those attempting to sow chaos, as national security and the supreme national interest transcend all other interests.
