An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed on Thursday that the exploitation of the suffering of the Yemeni people has been the United Nations’ modus operandi throughout the past years.
In a statement, the official source explained that the cynical exploitation of the suffering in Taiz and other Yemeni governorates by UN personnel is part of the politicization of humanitarian work.
The source pointed out that the worn-out narrative regarding “espionage cells” is refuted by the confessions of the individuals involved in those cells, and urged all parties not to fall into this trap.
The source noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) successfully delivered a convoy of trucks carrying medicine to the city of Taiz yesterday—without any grandstanding or media fanfare—and suggested that the United Nations should follow suit if it is truly serious about its humanitarian mission.
The statement concluded by confirming that all main roads leading to and from the city of Taiz are open and secured by the Yemeni government in Sanaa, facilitating the movement of citizens and goods, as well as the transport of all forms of humanitarian aid, which now flows smoothly. Furthermore, all government agencies are working to the best of their capacity to provide essential needs across all districts of Taiz Governorate, with the aim of alleviating the suffering of its residents.
