Intisaf Organization: Al-Jawf Correctional Facility Crime Is a Violation of International Humanitarian Law

The Intisaf Organization for the Rights of Women and Children condemned the crime of the Saudi enemy targeting the Central Correctional Facility in Al-Hazm city, Al-Jawf Governorate, which resulted in the martyrdom and injury of 14 inmates in an initial toll that may rise, including a woman and a child.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Intisaf Organization considered this crime a violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, particularly the fundamental principles related to the protection of civilians and the distinction between civilian objects and military targets. It also noted that Common Article 3 of the four Geneva Conventions prohibits such attacks.

The organization condemned the fact that women and children were among the victims of this crime, affirming that the protection of women and children is not a marginal issue, but a legal and humanitarian obligation imposed by the rules of international law.

It demanded the identification of all those responsible for issuing and executing the orders related to the shelling, the prosecution of everyone whose responsibility is established under international law, and ensuring that perpetrators of grave violations do not escape punishment.

The statement called on the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, and relevant international organizations to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, not to treat these incidents as mere numbers or passing events, and to work to prevent the recurrence of attacks against Yemenis.

The Intisaf Organization for the Rights of Women and Child emphasized that the protection of civilians’ lives is not a matter of bargaining, and that correctional facilities should not become scenes of death, affirming the organization’s commitment to the victims’ right to truth, justice, redress, and reparation.
