Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations strongly rejected a recent resolution adopted by the League of Arab States, denouncing it as biased, legally baseless, and an attempt to distort the realities surrounding the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.
In a letter to UN Secretary General António Guterres and President of the UN Security Council Fu Cong on May 4, Saeed Iravani dismissed Arab League Resolution 9245 in its entirety, arguing that the document deliberately ignores unlawful acts of aggression carried out by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
What follows is the full text of his letter:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Excellency,
Upon instructions from my Government, I am writing with reference to the letter dated 23 April 2026 from the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, in his capacity as Chair of the 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States, transmitting its resolution 9245 (S/2026/361).
The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically and unequivocally rejects this resolution in its entirety, together with the unfounded, misleading, and politically motivated allegations contained therein. Iran considers the resolution to be manifestly biased, devoid of factual and legal merit, and reflective of a deliberate attempt to advance a one-sided and premeditated political narrative. It is deeply regrettable that this so-called resolution willfully disregards the undeniable root causes of the situation on the ground. It clearly omits the central and incontrovertible fact that the United States and the Israeli regime have perpetrated acts of aggression and conducted unlawful, unprovoked armed attacks against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran in flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. Instead, it seeks to distort both the factual record and the applicable legal framework by falsely attributing responsibility to Iran- the very State that has been the victim of this unlawful war of aggression.
The legal position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the root causes of the present situation; the Security Council resolution 2817 (2026); the lawful exercise of its inherent right of self-defense under international law, including measures taken in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz; as well as the international responsibility of the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for their internationally wrongful acts and their undeniable role in aiding and abetting the aggressor have already been communicated to the Secretary General and the President of the Security Council in several occasions.
The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates that any attempt to misrepresent realities or to shield the perpetrators of aggression from accountability will neither alter the legal facts nor absolve those responsible of their international obligations and consequences.
I should be grateful if you would have the present letter circulated as an official document of the Security Council.
Please accept, Excellencies, the assurances of my highest consideration.
