The Iraqi government announced today, Sunday, three days of national mourning for the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
The official spokesperson for the Iraqi government, Bassem al-Awadi, said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “With profound sorrow and grief, we extend our condolences to the noble Iranian people and the entire Muslim world on the martyrdom of the scholar and mujahid, the Supreme Leader, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husseini al-Khamenei. We consider him a martyr among the first of the Prophet’s family, following a blatant act of aggression and a reprehensible act that violates all human and moral norms and constitutes a clear breach of international laws and conventions.”
He added, “With the passing of the martyred Sayyid, His Eminence has crowned his life of service to the Iranian people with the crown of martyrdom and unwavering commitment to principles, defending his nation against injustice and tyranny, seeking the path of truth, and striving to serve the causes of the Muslim world and all of humanity.”
He emphasized that “Iraq, in this context, reiterates its earnest call for an immediate and unconditional cessation of military operations and actions that are pushing the region to unprecedented levels of violence, fueling conflict, and undermining international peace and security.”
He noted that “the Iraqi government has declared three days of national mourning throughout Iraq.”
