Islamic Anger Spreads.. Why Did Trump Deliberately Insult the Muslims’ Qibla, Their Holiest Sanctity?
Comparing the Kaaba to Garbage
The criminal Trump placed the name of the holiest Islamic city in a context comparing it to hatred of the United States. He shared a picture of Obama’s library with a trash bag above it, showing dilapidated tents for the homeless and piles of garbage around it – a clear insult to Muslims of all sects and denominations, peoples and governments, given what Mecca represents in terms of symbolism and sanctity for every single Muslim.
Despite more than 24 hours having passed since Trump’s post, we have not seen or heard any condemnation or denunciation from Arab and Islamic countries. However, Sana’a raised a loud voice through various platforms, including what was published by the Chairman of the Board – Editor-in-Chief of the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) and Deputy Head of the Ansar Allah Media Authority, Nasruddin Amer, in a post on his Telegram channel, stating that “the despicable criminal Trump committed an unprecedented crime by insulting the Muslims’ qibla, one of the most important Muslim sanctities.”
Insult Coinciding with America’s Historic Defeat
Amer stressed that “this crime should never be ignored, especially since it came personally from the US president, with unmistakable intent. It is a crime against the holiest spot on earth, which God Almighty sanctified, placed His blessed House therein, and made it the qibla for Muslims: ‘Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah – blessed and a guidance for the worlds. In it are clear signs [such as] the standing place of Abraham. And whoever enters it shall be safe.'”
Amer affirmed that “this persistence by global Zionism in insulting sanctities reflects a systematic effort to diminish the sanctity of holy sites in people’s hearts. They did not stop at insulting God Almighty, His Messenger (peace be upon them all), and His holy books, and now they deliberately insult Mecca.”
He considered that “what encourages them to continue is the official and then popular Islamic silence and failure to act, which exposes them to God’s wrath if they persist in this silence and failure. This is among the most dangerous things the enemies aim to achieve – causing divine punishment upon the Islamic nation if it fails to act.”
Amer added, “The despicable criminal Trump deliberately issued this insult and crime at the same time as the likely signing of an agreement that came after a historic defeat of the American and Israeli enemy at the hands of the Islamic nation, represented by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the axis of jihad and resistance. This apparently drove him to deliberately insult the most important symbols and sanctities of Muslims at this specific time.”
Wide Official and Popular Condemnation
The capital Sana’a responded to US President Donald Trump’s statements containing offensive references to Mecca with wide official and popular condemnation through statements, platform posts, and also mass marches to be held tomorrow, Tuesday.
Official authorities in Sana’a considered these statements a crossing of red lines and an assault on the sanctities of the Islamic nation, indicating that Trump’s belittling of the holy city reveals the true nature of the hostile American discourse towards Islamic sanctities.
The Parliament strongly condemned and denounced the Zionist criminal Trump’s offense against Mecca.
In a statement issued this evening, it considered this offense an extension of the repeated and deliberate insults by which the West provokes the feelings of the nation’s people regarding their Islamic sanctities.
It called on Arab and Islamic parliaments and governments to condemn the repeated offenses against Islamic sanctities, demanding that the peoples of the Arab and Islamic nations organize events denouncing those offenses.
The statement called on the Yemeni people to come out in massive crowds and organize million-man marches in the capital Sana’a and the free provinces to denounce the offense of the Zionist criminal “Trump” against Mecca, in response to God Almighty, as jihad in His cause, and in response to the call of the Revolution Leader, Sayyed Mujahid Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and the political leadership.
As always, Sana’a shows a firm, denouncing, and rejecting stance towards any insult to Islamic sanctities or contempt for religious symbols by successive US administrations or any administration, center, or person.
This stance stems from an official vision that considers American and Zionist policies in the region an extension of the ongoing hostility against the nation’s causes, and rejects the use of sanctities in domestic political polarization speeches in the United States.
Sharp Attack on Trump
Angry reactions multiplied. Social media users from various Arab and Islamic countries launched a sharp attack on Trump, considering that dragging Islamic sanctities into domestic political conflicts and personal score-settling is “a dangerous and provocative transgression.”
They also considered that using the name of the Muslims’ holy city in domestic political battles and comparing the gatherings of political opponents to it is a clear insult and an unacceptable transgression that touches the religious feelings of over two billion Muslims worldwide.
Angry hashtags denouncing the statement swept social media. Tweeters said the goal is clear: “Trump deliberately humiliates Muslims and insults their sanctities to gain cheap political points at the expense of the sanctity of religion.”
In this context, the Iranian embassy in Tunisia posted a direct tweet saying: “Do not insult our holy Mecca,” expressing Tehran’s absolute rejection of this tampering with sanctities.
Ibrahim Hooper, spokesperson for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said that Trump shows “clear contempt for the religious beliefs of Muslims.”
Iraqi journalist Muntazer al-Zaidi wrote: “Trump insults a billion-strong nation and compares Mecca to a garbage dump.”
Journalist Umayma Tamam tweeted angrily: “Unbelievable!! After ten years, Obama’s library will become a ‘Mecca’ for those who hate America! President Donald Trump commented thus on a picture he compared to the sanctuary and posted on his Truth Social.” She considered it “a crime against one and a half billion Muslims.”
Using the name “Mecca” – the Muslims’ qibla and holiest place on earth – as a symbol of hatred and filth is a blatant violation of the sanctity of a place that God commanded to be honored in His verse: “Whoever honors the symbols of God – indeed, it is from the piety of hearts.”
Why Mecca Specifically?
Analysts believe that Trump chose Mecca deliberately for several reasons, the most important being to achieve maximum provocation. There is no religious symbol that stirs Muslims more than the Kaaba. He thus ensures the greatest amount of interaction and media noise, especially at a time when Trump was under pressure from the Iranian negotiator. So, he needed to stir up something that would absorb angry reactions from the far right in the United States due to the White House’s loss to Tehran, hence this incendiary tweet against Islam.
By doing so, he seeks to please his extremist base. Hate speech against Islam has become a profitable commodity for the far-right current, which sees Muslims as a “civilizational enemy.”
A Path Based on Hatred, Arrogance, and Racism
What is clear is that Trump’s insult to Mecca is not a slip of the tongue nor freedom of expression; it is a crime against an Islamic sanctity and the Muslims’ qibla, an assault on the feelings of an entire nation. His repeated insults to Muslims confirm that his approach is based on hatred and arrogance, and that respect for religions is just a slogan he raises when he wants deals, and tramples when he wants votes.
We also understand from this his spiteful position based on hatred of Islam and Muslims, no matter how he tries to appear in any guise that hides his hatred and racism towards Muslims.
But Mecca will remain lofty, the Kaaba will remain the qibla of Muslim hearts, and the tongues of the hateful or pens of the distorters will not harm it.
And history will not forgive anyone who dares to violate God’s sacred, secure House.
