Israeli Enemy Media: Israel Urges Regional Coalition as Yemen’s War of Attrition Exposes Security Gaps
The Israeli news site Walla reported Monday that Yemen is setting the ceiling and pace of its military operations as long as Israel’s war on Gaza continues, stressing that a regional coalition must be built against Yemen despite reluctance among Arab states to shoulder the burden.
Quoting Israeli security and political officials, the report said Yemen has successfully imposed a war of attrition on the Israeli enemy. Journalist Amir Bohbot wrote that an intelligence gap was exposed early in the conflict. Although Israel, with the assistance of US Central Command, launched a series of strikes hoping to shift the balance of power, these efforts fell short.
According to the report, Washington eventually realized that the cost of escalation outweighed the benefits and pushed for negotiations, leading to a ceasefire agreement. Israel, however, was left isolated in its military campaign against Yemen, except for continued US support in missile defense.
The report further acknowledged that Israeli attempts to target what it called “Houthi supply chains” failed, as Yemen developed alternative routes for raw materials, production facilities, and technology. Efforts to damage Yemeni ports also did not diminish their ability or determination to continue missile production.
Walla highlighted Israeli calls for Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Gulf states to join efforts against Yemen, arguing that a coordinated Arab coalition is needed to counter what officials described as a growing regional threat.
The site concluded that Yemen appeared largely unfazed by Israeli strikes, warning that hostilities could intensify if Israeli forces advance deeper into Gaza City.
Since the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces have stepped up military operations in support of the Palestinian people. These included missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli territory, as well as a naval blockade in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden aimed at disrupting Israeli-linked shipping.
The escalation has drawn Israel into direct confrontation with Yemen for the first time, exposing gaps in Israeli intelligence and military planning. Despite Israeli and US efforts to neutralize the threat, Yemeni forces have maintained their operations, framing them as part of a broader regional front backing Gaza.
