Israeli shelling causes water crisis due to break in Mekorot pipeline east Gaza City

The Gaza Municipality confirmed that the current water shortage affecting large areas of the city is due to a break in the Mekorot water pipeline east of the city, caused by Israeli shelling. The municipality explained in a statement on Saturday that its crews are currently carrying out repairs to the pipeline in coordination with relevant authorities, according to the Palestinian news agency SAFA.

It indicated that water pumping will resume according to the established schedule as soon as the repairs are completed.

It clarified that the areas currently affected by the water shortage are: Zeitoun, Shuja’iyya, Shawwa Square, Yafa Street, the Old City, Tel al-Hawa, and parts of Sabra, in addition to the western areas of the city.
