Despite a US-brokered ceasefire now entering its third week, Palestinians returning to northern Gaza face devastation as the Israeli regime continues its attacks and restricts reconstruction efforts, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
In northern Gaza, families returning to the ruins of their bombed homes face dire shortages of food and water.
Though large-scale bombardment has subsided, the aftermath of two years of relentless Israeli assaults has left communities without infrastructure, shelter, or reliable access to essential supplies.
For many, survival itself has become a daily struggle.
Yahya al-Sarraj, the mayor of Gaza City, said Israeli restrictions on the entry of heavy equipment are paralyzing reconstruction efforts.
Speaking at a press conference, al-Sarraj noted that the city urgently requires at least 250 heavy vehicles and 1,000 tonnes of cement to restore wells and repair the shattered water network.
He warned that unless these materials are allowed in, “basic urban life cannot resume.”
Residents say the Israeli regime is intentionally obstructing recovery to prolong Gaza’s suffering, turning the supposed ceasefire into another phase of control and deprivation.
