Spain withdraws its ambassador from Israeli entity over U.S.-Israeli aggression on Iran

Spain announced on Wednesday the permanent withdrawal of its ambassador to the Israeli entity, in a move reflecting escalating diplomatic tensions between the two sides over Madrid’s opposition to the U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran.

Spain’s ambassador, Ana Salomón Pérez, had previously been recalled to Madrid last September after the Israeli entity’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, accused the Spanish government of corruption and antisemitism. The accusations came after Spain decided to ban the transit of aircraft and ships carrying weapons to the entity through its ports or airspace due to the war in Gaza, according to the BBC network.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry said its embassy in Tel Aviv will be run by a chargé d’affaires during the coming period.

Relations between the two sides have witnessed growing tensions since the outbreak of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The decision also comes a week after a public dispute between Madrid and Washington over their positions regarding the aggression on Iran.
