European Commissioner: Lebanon bears brunt with over 2,000 dead, 1.2 million displaced, & 250,000 fleeing to Syria

European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, said on Tuesday that the Middle East is witnessing a dangerous escalation of events.

She added in a post on X,  that Lebanon bears the brunt of the repercussions of this escalation, noting that more than 2,000 people have been killed, about 1.2 million displaced, in addition to about 250,000 fleeing to Syria.

Lahbib condemned the indiscriminate attacks targeting civilians, stressing the need to respect international humanitarian law without any exception.

Since March 2, the Israeli enemy has escalated its criminal aggression on Lebanon, targeting Lebanese towns, villages, and cities, intensifying its airstrikes, resulting in thousands of martyrs and wounded and the displacement of approximately one and a half million Lebanese citizens, concurrently with the aggression launched by the United States and the Zionist entity on Iran.

A ceasefire agreement entered into effect in mid-April, yet the Israeli enemy army continues to commit daily violations of the agreement.
