The capital Sana’a witnessed today a massive popular rally on Airport Street commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) – Ashura – under the slogan “Abasement is beneath us.”
The crowds participating in the rally affirmed that the Yemeni people’s commemoration of this painful occasion, the greatest tragedy in the nation’s history, stems from their faith-based belonging, expressing their unwavering faith-based loyalty to the Messenger (peace be upon him and his family) and his pure household, their adherence to the great religion of Islam, and their steadfastness on the righteous path carried by the righteous ones from the Messenger’s household and the nation’s finest, and the believing mujahideen, generation after generation.
The million-strong crowds renewed their response and full support for the call of the Revolution Leader, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, affirming mobilization and readiness to end aggression, occupation, and siege, and to liberate the entire country.
They pointed out that commemorating Ashura affirms steadfastness on the principled faith-based stance in support of the nation’s causes, foremost the Palestinian cause, defending the oppressed against the forces of arrogance and hegemony, and continuing support for Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, and all free people of the nation within the framework of consolidating the equation of the unity of arenas.
The crowds stressed that the values and principles of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) will remain alive in the hearts of the nation’s free people, and a source of inspiration for generations in facing challenges and enemies, and that the Husseini path is the compass guiding stances and determining the course in defending the nation’s central causes.
They affirmed that commemorating this occasion represents a renewal of the pledge to follow Imam Hussein’s path and adhere to the values and principles for which he sacrificed, foremost among them freedom, dignity, justice, and the rejection of humiliation and submission to the nation’s enemies. They pointed to the importance of drawing lessons from the courage, stance, and sacrifices of Imam Hussein in confronting the forces of tyranny and arrogance—America and Israel.
The crowds also affirmed that Imam Hussein will remain a renewed school for generations, drawing from it the meanings of sacrifice and redemption in confronting the forces of injustice, corruption, and misguidance, and that evoking this occasion enhances the spirit of sacrifice and embodies the meanings of patience and steadfastness in truth.
They noted that Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), in his blessed uprising, is the authentic extension of Islam from the position of role model, example, guidance, and leadership, as expressed by the Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his family) when he said: “Hussein is from me, and I am from Hussein. God loves whoever loves Hussein. Hussein is a grandson among grandsons.”
The crowds chanted Hussein’s slogan “Abasement is beneath us,” and the slogan of disavowal from the enemies of God, and chanted phrases such as: “Ashura is the day of the free… it shook the thrones of the wicked,” “Our cry at all times… Abasement is beneath us,” “Hussein in every time… a revolution against tyranny,” “Hussein is the father of the free… we march on his path as revolutionaries,” “Our axis is the axis of jihad… an extension of Hussein’s blood.”
The crowds chanted: “No freedom, no independence… except through jihad and fighting,” “With awareness and serious work… we will liberate the entire country,” “We will continue, we will fight… we will not remain silent over a single inch,” “With readiness… and mobilization… we long for any option,” “O Gaza, we are with you… you are not alone,” “Jihad, jihad… all the people are ready.”
During the rally, the Mufti of Yemen, Allama Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din, emphasized the importance of commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)—this occasion and event from which Muslims draw lessons, the meaning of manhood, sacrifice, and redemption.
He said: “When we commemorate this occasion, we do not do so to incite sectarianism or factionalism, but to revive the values, principles, and high ideals brought by our Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), emphasized by the Holy Quran, and which the enemies sought to erase from the nation’s memory and distort from its correct path—the path of the Messenger of God and his household.” He pointed out that speaking of the Umayyads refers to those criminal tyrants who deviated with this nation and made them their slaves.
He added: “As we commemorate this occasion, we want to revive the values for which Hussein (peace be upon him) rose when he saw the nation’s path had deviated from the Noble Prophet at the hands of the Umayyad tyrants. His martyrdom was a small price for that.”
He noted that “many have doubted Imam Hussein’s uprising and said it caused bloodshed. This same rhetoric is heard today when misguided fatwas are issued, when they domesticate the thinking of this nation, and when they portray resistance movements against the enemies of God—America and Israel—as recklessness and foolishness that cause bloodshed and loss of life. The talk of yesterday is the talk of today.”
The Mufti of Yemen clarified that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) preempted the words of these people and responded to them early by affirming love for Hussein, saying: “Hussein is from me and I am from Hussein. God loves whoever loves Hussein. Hussein is a grandson among grandsons.”
He affirmed that this noble hadith validates Hussein’s uprising, gives it legitimacy, and places responsibility on the nation to support him, rise up, and engage in jihad with him, fulfilling this sacred duty.
He pointed out that Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) took upon himself the duty of enjoining good and forbidding evil, affirming that the school of Ashura is the school of sacrifice, redemption, faith, and steadfastness, and love of meeting God, embodied by Imam Hussein bin Ali and the small group of his companions, from which people should draw inspiration.
Allama Sharaf al-Din also affirmed that the culture of jihad and martyrdom for the sake of God is what will achieve victory and restore the nation’s glory, honor, and dignity, warning all believers against listening to those who discourage and spread rumors, who instill fear and weakness in their hearts about confronting the enemies of God.
He noted that the purpose of human existence in this life is trials and tests—God did not create them for this world, but for worship and the Hereafter. He added: “We will not attain God’s pleasure, mercy, or taste the bliss of Paradise except through jihad in the path of God and enjoining good.”
He stressed the necessity of joining the Al-Aqsa Flood courses, reinforcing the fronts, preparing and readying to confront the enemies of God, restoring the dignity, honor, and sovereignty of this nation, and extending its influence over its land—which will only be achieved through jihad in the path of God, enjoining good, forbidding evil, and sacrificing as Imam Hussein sacrificed.
The Mufti emphasized the importance of making the most of this occasion, urging and raising awareness among people, mobilizing all energies for the sake of God, expelling the occupier, and removing all American and Western bases from the lands of Islam and Muslims, thereby realizing the meaning of belonging to God, His Messenger, and the Imams of the household (peace be upon them).
He explained that among the blessings of Imam Hussein’s school is the great victory achieved by the Axis of Jihad and Resistance, led by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which carried all the values, principles, and ideals represented by Imam Hussein and thus received God’s support and backing.
Allama Shams al-Din Sharaf al-Din pointed to the importance of dedicating the culture of jihad, martyrdom, enjoining good, and forbidding evil.
He added: “Here is Trump rampaging left and right, trying to claim heroism and glory for himself, saying he achieved a strategic victory by signing a peace agreement.” He noted that peace agreements have not been signed for three thousand years, and Trump is chasing glory, illusions, and fantasies.
He affirmed that what brought the criminal Trump to the negotiating table was the culture of jihad for the sake of God, missiles, strength, and steadfastness—and this is the meaning for which Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) stood.
