Yemen’s Armed Forces announced on Saturday that they had driven out Saudi-backed forces and secured the remaining areas of Sama, Al-Silw and Al-Mawasit districts in Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen.
Yemeni military media released footage showing coordinated military operations to secure the areas, alongside scenes of groups of Saudi-backed fighters surrendering to government forces in response to a general amnesty decree issued by President Mahdi al-Mashat last month.
The footage showed fighters advancing through several locations, as well as scenes of captured personnel receiving food and medical care for their wounds. It also appeared to show Yemeni forces refraining from firing on retreating fighters, according to the military media report.
The announcement follows several days of reported advances in rural Taiz, during which Yemeni forces said they had captured military equipment and vehicles and that Saudi-backed fighters had withdrawn from multiple positions.
The report places these developments within a broader campaign along Yemen’s western coast and the mountainous areas overlooking Taiz and Lahj governorates.
Social media users have also circulated footage purportedly showing Yemeni fighters in several areas, while accounts affiliated with Saudi-backed forces have reportedly acknowledged territorial losses.
The developments come amid intensified fighting in Taiz province, where Yemeni Armed Forces say they have been advancing against Saudi-backed formations. The report also highlighted a presidential amnesty offer, calling on Saudi-backed fighters to take advantage of it, while vowing continued military operations against Saudi-backed forces
