In a press statement carried by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Baghaei affirmed that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) explicitly recognizes the right of all member states to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
He condemned the unilateral interpretations and politicized policies of some nuclear-armed states that consistently question the right of other countries to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Iranian spokesman reiterated his criticism of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) stance following the US-Israeli aggression against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, noting that this constitutes an unprecedented event in the history of the non-proliferation regime.
He pointed out that the IAEA should have condemned the attack, but it failed to do so.
Baghaei explained that inspections of undamaged Iranian facilities are continuing normally, but facilities that have been damaged cannot be subjected to the usual procedures due to the absence of a clear mechanism, in addition to security and safety considerations.
