Dr. Bin Habtoor: Events on West Coast matter of Yemeni sovereignty, pose no threat to Intel navigation

Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Habtoor, a member of the Supreme Political Council, affirmed on Thursday that the events unfolding on the West Coast are a matter of Yemeni sovereignty. He stated that Yemen’s exercise of sovereignty over its territories, coasts, and territorial waters poses no threat to international navigation; international navigation will remain secure, as it serves Yemeni, regional, and international interests alike.

In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Dr. Bin Habtoor said, “We reject foreign statements and positions that apply double standards regarding Yemeni sovereignty. Yemen’s exercise of sovereignty over its own territory is an inherent right that no external party has the authority to challenge.”

He added, “If the Security Council is convening to discuss developments in Yemen, its responsibility dictates that it address the root causes of the escalation—foremost among them the ongoing Saudi aggression and blockade—and work to end them. It should not transform into a platform for condemning Yemenis for exercising their legitimate right to defend their country and its sovereignty, nor serve as a cover providing pretexts and justifications for the continuation of the aggression and blockade.”

The Supreme Political Council member warned against any new military escalation against Yemen, emphasizing that the path to security and stability for all lies in respecting Yemen’s sovereignty and independence, ending the aggression and blockade, and moving toward a just and sustainable peace.
