Eye Humanity Center for Rights and Development has condemned the heinous crime committed by Saudi-led aggression mercenaries in Taiz Governorate.
The act involved stripping a martyr’s body of its clothes, violating the sanctity of the corpse, and filming, publishing, and boasting about the scene—criminal behavior that strips the perpetrators of the most basic human and moral values.
In a statement received by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), the Center explained that this crime constitutes a flagrant assault on human dignity and the sanctity of the dead, as well as a deliberate act of humiliation and degradation.
The statement reveals an unprecedented level of moral and human depravity among the perpetrators; not only did they commit the shameful act, but they also deliberately documented, boasted about, and disseminated it, showing blatant disregard for the victim’s dignity, the feelings of his family and loved ones, and the entire Yemeni people.
The Center emphasized that the sanctity of a human body is not lost upon death, and that a body or dignity must not be subjected to revenge, spite, or humiliation. It noted that the rules of international humanitarian law mandate respect for the dead and their protection against mutilation, mistreatment, and assaults on their dignity, while strictly prohibiting acts of mutilation, indignity, and degrading treatment.
The statement noted that this crime cannot be viewed as an isolated incident; it was preceded in Taiz Governorate by numerous acts involving dragging, killing, and the mutilation and abuse of the bodies of the dead and prisoners—acts that were filmed and disseminated. This recurring pattern reflects a culture of impunity and confirms that these practices are not merely isolated transgressions but constitute conduct demanding investigation, accountability, and prosecution.
It pointed out that the repeated mutilation of bodies—particularly those of prisoners and the deceased—constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes where the requisite legal elements are met.
The statement held the perpetrators of this crime, and those behind them, fully responsible for this heinous violation. It emphasized that the dignity of victims is not extinguished by death, and that crimes involving the mutilation of bodies are not absolved by the passage of time or political silence; anyone who committed, ordered, incited, or covered up these crimes must be held accountable.
Furthermore, it affirmed that these events inflict a deep wound on the dignity and sentiments of the Yemeni people and once again expose the scale of violations witnessed in Taiz Governorate. It reiterated the demand to end the policy of impunity regarding all killings, acts of dragging, mutilation of bodies, and violations committed against prisoners, the deceased, and civilians in the governorate.
