The Entisaf Organization for Women’s and Children’s Rights condemned the heinous crime committed by the mercenaries of the Saudi aggression in Taiz Governorate, represented in mutilating the body of one of the martyrs of the armed forces, in a shameful criminal act that represents a flagrant violation of human dignity and the sanctity of the dead, and a moral and humanitarian downfall that contravenes religious and human values and authentic Yemeni customs.
The organization affirmed in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that mutilating bodies and assaulting the sanctity of the dead represents a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, which require respecting the bodies of the dead, preserving their dignity, and protecting them from disfigurement and humiliation, and obligate all parties to treat the dead with humanity, without discrimination or revenge.
It denounced the repetition of such crimes and violations in Taiz Governorate, which reflect the danger of practices affecting the dead and prisoners, and reveal a grave disregard for international covenants and laws and human values, affirming that human dignity and the sanctity of the body do not fall with death, and that such crimes cannot be justified or dealt with as isolated individual acts without accountability.
The statement held the Saudi aggression and its mercenaries legally and morally responsible for this crime, demanding that all those involved in it be brought to justice and ensuring that they do not escape punishment, and that the crime be documented, evidence preserved, and referred to the judicial authorities and competent international mechanisms.
It called on the United Nations, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and international human rights organizations to condemn this crime and act urgently to monitor and document the violations committed against the dead and prisoners in Yemen, and to work to ensure respect for the rules of international humanitarian law and hold those responsible for violating them accountable.
The statement pointed out that silence toward the crimes of mutilating bodies encourages their repetition and undermines the principles of justice and fairness, renewing the organization’s firm position in defending human dignity and the rights of victims and their families, and its demand to hold accountable everyone involved in this crime or who contributed to committing it or covering it up.
