Hezbollah MP Blasts ‘Sell-out’ Government, Says Lebanon Central to any Iran-US Deal

A Lebanese legislator from Hezbollah’s political wing says Lebanon remains a critical priority for Iran in any potential deal with the United States, saying the Beirut government sold itself out to the Israeli regime with the so-called framework agreement.

Hassan Ezzedine, a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, said on Tuesday that none of the objectives mentioned in the “humiliating” agreement will come to fruition, and that the deal was imposed by the United States on the Lebanese government in favor of the Tel Aviv regime.

“This is while the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has proven itself as a major power at the regional level, has demonstrated its skills in managing war and the negotiation process, thanks to its political, military, security, economic and geopolitical capabilities and resources,” he said.

The Lebanese parliamentarian stated that no one would ever forget that US President Donald Trump has no option but to publicly sign a memorandum of understanding with Iran, the first clause of which emphasizes the need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon and the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the southern sector of the country.

Ezzedine noted that Lebanon remains Iran’s critical priority, and the Islamic Republic will not cede the case to any other party.

“The equation that Tehran has created remains in place and will continue. We warn that if the Lebanese government wants to continue on this wrong path, it has to bear full responsibility for all potential consequences. We will determine our actions in accordance with unfolding circumstances,” he stated.

The Lebanese legislator added that despite its claims, the Beirut government has violated the country’s constitution through the “surrender agreement” with Israel.

‘Lebanese government deserves punishment, legal prosecution’

Ezzedine also argued that President Joseph Aoun, under Article 52 of the Lebanese Constitution, has the right to negotiate with countries with which Lebanon has diplomatic relations, but not with the Israeli regime, which is considered an enemy.

“Additionally, any agreement or treaty requires the approval of the Council of Ministers and then the Parliament, because negotiating with the enemy is prohibited by the Constitution, and anyone who attempts to do so will be subject to accountability and legal prosecution,” the lawmaker noted.

The agreement that the Lebanese government signed with Tel Aviv amounts to recognition of the occupying regime, which is contrary to the constitution and fundamental laws of Lebanon, he added.

He maintained that anyone who tries to end enmity with Israel and seeks to absolve it of its dark record bears full responsibility for the crimes committed by the occupying regime.

Netanyahu’s gratitude to Beirut govt. reveals depth of its betrayal: Ezzedine

The Lebanese parliamentarian stated that the government will have to bear responsibility for all potential consequences of the deal, which will gradually emerge in the coming days.

“We warn the Lebanese authorities against falling into the trap of security arrangements embodied in this humiliating agreement, where the Zionist enemy would openly deceive us, and condition its withdrawal from southern Lebanon to the disarmament of Hezbollah. This is while the resistance group is the only deterrent force against Israel, and the guarantor of Lebanon’s independence and sovereignty,” he continued.

According to Ezzedine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s gratitude to the Beirut government “is enough to felicitate Lebanese authorities for the medal of humiliation and shame that Netanyahu has decorated them with.”

“It exposes the depth of betrayal to the Lebanese nation, marks a blatant violation of the national and moral responsibility that Lebanese officials are expected to honor.”

Ezzedine described all bloodshed in defense of Lebanon as the source of the country’s strength.

He noted that Hezbollah, along with its allies in the Amal Movement and people from various walks of Lebanese society, will evaluate the status quo to decide what necessary mechanisms and methods to adopt.

“We urge all those who are pinning hopes on this shameful agreement, and are mistakenly believing they have been offered a favorable opportunity to take time, as the game of deception has just started and their bets are unfortunately doomed to loss,” he concluded.
