Iran: 160 Heritage sites damaged, awaiting UNESCO assessment

An Iranian official said around 160 cultural heritage sites were damaged in U.S. and Israeli attacks, adding that Iran is awaiting UNESCO experts to assess the impact.

Hassan Fartousi, head of Iran’s National Commission for UNESCO, noted that a local delegation has already documented damage across at least six provinces.

He expressed hope that UNESCO will later evaluate the full extent of the damage and support restoration efforts, adding that the organization can help document cases for potential legal action, though it cannot enforce such measures directly.
