Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefs international community on latest developments in Yemen
The memoranda included briefing the international community on the latest developments in Yemen and the position of the Government of the Republic of Yemen in Sana’a.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated in its memoranda that Yemen has been subjected to a brutal aggression and an unjust siege by land, sea, and air by Saudi Arabia since 26 March 2015, during which it launched more than a quarter of a million airstrikes with various types of weapons, including internationally banned weapons, targeting civilians, including children and women, and civilian objects, including homes, hospitals, schools, airports, factories, roads, bridges, farms, water tanks, markets, mosques, and others.
It explained that the aggression and siege caused the killing and wounding of hundreds of thousands of civilians and the destruction of many civilian objects, in addition to the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the occurrence of a humanitarian crisis considered the worst in modern times.
The Ministry pointed out that Sana’a, since the beginning of the aggression, has dealt positively with all efforts and initiatives calling for peace and at all negotiation stations, including the rounds held in Geneva, Biel, Kuwait, and Stockholm, while Saudi Arabia and its mercenaries have always worked to obstruct and abort all efforts.
It stated that Sana’a, through Omani mediation, conducted negotiations with the Saudi regime and reached a road map in 2023 that paves the way for a comprehensive settlement in Yemen, but it reneged on its commitments due to its miscalculations and its belief that regional and international circumstances had become favorable for implementing its sinister goals in Yemen.
The Ministry affirmed that Sana’a has repeatedly and continuously called on the Saudi regime to implement the road map, foremost the humanitarian file represented by opening Sana’a Airport and Hodeidah Port and paying the salaries of employees from the Yemeni national wealth controlled by the Saudi regime, as a prelude to ending the aggression and siege and achieving a just and comprehensive peace, but those calls fell on deaf ears.
It clarified that instead of responding to the legitimate Yemeni demands, the Saudi regime moved towards escalation and targeted Sana’a International Airport on 13 July last to prevent a humanitarian flight carrying an official and popular delegation, patients, and stranded people.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that as a result of the Saudi regime’s escalation, its violation of the truce, and its pursuit of the continuation of the state of no-peace-no-war, through which it believed it could achieve what it failed to achieve by military force, and given the major deterioration of the humanitarian situation and the expansion of poverty and famine in some districts, especially the coastal ones, the Yemeni people decided to wrest their legitimate and rightful rights and begin imposing the equation of “siege for siege” and banning maritime navigation to Saudi Arabia, with a clear and declared goal, which is lifting the siege imposed on Yemen.
It pointed out that instead of inclining towards peace, the Saudi regime continued to mobilize its followers in the occupied areas and push them towards exploding the situation, leading to targeting civilians and civilian objects with aircraft and missiles, the latest of which was targeting the central reformatory in Al-Jawf on Monday, 7 September this year.
According to the memoranda of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Yemeni Armed Forces were forced, in view of the above, to deal with those threats, and were keen for the response to be in a way that does not lead to matters sliding into a wide conflict. However, Saudi Arabia and its militias escalated and moved from skirmishes to armed confrontations, which pushed the Yemeni Armed Forces to deal with that and seek to fully secure the targeted districts.
It explained that the militias of the Saudi regime announced in recent days their mobilization and determination to launch a comprehensive aggression and occupy the non-occupied governorates, foremost among them the capital, Sana’a, stressing that the Saudi escalation pushes the region towards escalation and exacerbating the situation, while the region cannot bear more wars, which will cast its negative shadows on the entire general scene, and the Saudi regime bears responsibility for any consequences resulting from that.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that America, Britain, and the Israeli enemy entity have turned the Saudi regime into a pliant tool for destroying the region, especially Yemen.
It renewed the call on the Saudi regime to incline towards peace, return to the right path, cease its hostile acts and subversive activities, and proceed with implementing the agreed road map, and to spare the region more conflicts and crises.
It expressed Yemen’s aspiration for the international community to play its role in pressuring the Saudi regime to end its aggression and siege on Yemen and maintain security and stability in the region and the world.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its memoranda by affirming that the Saudi regime’s attempts to intimidate and mislead the international community about what is happening in Yemen are baseless, and that Sana’a is extremely keen to achieve peace and stability in Yemen, preserve the safety of international navigation, respect international law and international humanitarian law, and extends its hand to everyone for cooperation in everything that would establish security and stability in the region and the world.
