Saudi Airstrike Hits Sponge Factory in Sana’a

Saudi aircraft reportedly carried out an airstrike today on a sponge factory in the Shamlan neighborhood of Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, with initial reports indicating injuries.

Yemen’s Ministry of Health and Environment said that three civilians were injured in the strike on a sponge factory in the Al-Mahjar area of Shamlan. The ministry stated that the victims suffered suffocation from fires and heavy smoke rising from the site, according to a preliminary toll.

The ministry described the targeting of factories and production facilities as a violation of international humanitarian law, adding that it should be subject to international investigation and accountability.

The remarks come amid renewed military escalation between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, with Saudi airstrikes and attacks on civilian infrastructure in several provinces.

Sana’a has repeatedly warned that continued attacks would trigger retaliatory measures against Saudi interests.
