Sayyed Khamenei: We Will Await Fulfillment of Memorandum’s Conditions, & Direct Negotiations Do Not Mean Acceptance of Enemy’s Viewpoint

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei, stated that his country will await the fulfillment of the conditions mentioned in the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington, but that it is self-evident that direct negotiations to be held in the future do not mean acceptance of the enemy’s viewpoint.

This came in a speech delivered by Sayyed Khamenei on Thursday evening to the Iranian people regarding the memorandum of understanding between the presidents of Iran and the United States, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

He added: “O loyal Iranian people, as you have been informed, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the presidents of Iran and the United States. In the path to reaching this stage, the relevant officials made great efforts with diligence and good faith, and of course, it was the US president who, from a position of weakness and necessity, used various means of pressure to achieve this.”

He continued: “As for me, in principle, I had a different opinion, but given the pledge made to me by the President of the Republic, in his capacity as the head of the Supreme National Security Council, before us on behalf of himself and the other members, regarding the safeguarding of the rights of the Iranian people and the resistance front, and his explicit declaration of assuming responsibility for that, I issued permission for its approval. He also explicitly affirmed that they would not yield to any excessive demands if the American side attempts to impose them.”

The Leader of the Iranian Revolution concluded: “From this moment onward, we – that is, you, the honorable people, and this humble servant – will await the fulfillment of the mentioned conditions. However, it is self-evident that direct negotiations to be held in the future do not mean acceptance of the enemy’s viewpoint.”
