UN rapporteur calls on Europe to suspend trade with Israel, end complicity immediately

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, called on European leaders on Tuesday to demonstrate greater integrity in their handling of the war on Gaza and the violations committed by the Israeli enemy.

In a post on X platform, Albanese stated that merely “restricting” trade with Israeli settlements, which constitute war crimes, is nothing more than a “smokescreen.”

She emphasized that respecting international law requires ending all forms of complicity, not just amending it.

The UN official stressed the necessity of immediately suspending trade with Israel, given the accusations leveled against it of committing horrific crimes.

With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has committed genocide, siege and starvation crimes in the Gaza Strip for more than two consecutive years since October 7, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 72,560 Palestinian civilians, most of them children and women, and the injury of 172,317 others, to date, in a non-final tally, as thousands of victims are still under the rubble and in the streets that ambulance and rescue crews cannot reach.
