Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms condemned on Tuesday the crime committed by the Saudi enemy, which targeted an inhabited home in Maqbana District, Taiz governorate, resulting in injuries to women and children and the near-total destruction of the house.
In a statement, the network considered the Saudi enemy’s targeting of homes, civilians, and civilian infrastructure a flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law.
It explained that its field monitoring teams documented the Saudi enemy’s targeting of the home of citizen Abdu Muhammad Bajash al-Baladi in the Mahalla area of Akhdou’ Asfal sub-district, Maqbana District, with a direct airstrike that resulted in injuries to Fawzia Muhammad Shaddad al-Hammadi, 47, Bunyan Abdu Bajash, 35, and the child Saja’ Abdu Abdu Bajash, 15, and the leveling of large parts of the house.
The statement indicated that the application of the criminal liability law, based on field investigations and legal examination, confirms that the targeted house is located within a purely civilian area, completely devoid of any military presence or deployments.
It deemed the incident a blatant violation of the fundamental principles governing armed conflict, foremost among them the principle of distinction, which mandates a permanent and absolute distinction between legitimate military objectives and protected civilian objects, criminalizes targeting the homes of unarmed civilians, and prohibits indiscriminate attacks.
The statement emphasized that targeting civilian homes constitutes a war crime, necessitating the prosecution and criminal accountability of all those who planned, ordered, and carried out the attack. It held the Saudi enemy fully legally responsible for the material and human consequences resulting from the bombing.
Taiz Network for Rights and Freedoms called upon the United Nations and relevant humanitarian organizations to condemn the Saudi aggression targeting residential neighborhoods, villages, and civilian objects in Taiz Governorate and other governorates.
It called for the collection and documentation of physical evidence and field testimonies by the relevant judicial and official bodies to complete the criminal prosecution files, ensuring the deterrence of perpetrators and the protection of victims’ rights. She emphasized that the United Nations and the Human Rights Council bear a humanitarian and moral responsibility for the repeated crimes committed by the Saudi enemy against the Yemeni people.
