Entisaf Organization condemns crime of targeting civilian home in Al-Ma’afir in Taiz

The Entisaf Organization for Women’s and Children’s Rights condemned in the strongest terms the horrific crime committed by the Saudi enemy by targeting a civilian home in Al-Ma’afir District in Taiz Governorate, which resulted in the martyrdom of three women and an elderly man and the injury of three other civilians in an initial toll.

The organization considered in a statement  that targeting a home sheltering civilians, and the resulting killing and injury of women and the elderly, is a grave violation of the rules for protecting civilians.

It affirmed that international humanitarian law prohibits directing attacks against the civilian population and civilian objects, and Article 51 of Additional Protocol I provides for the general protection of the civilian population, while international humanitarian law also enshrines special protection for women, the elderly, and other groups most vulnerable to systematic targeting.

The organization warned of the continuation of the Saudi aggression and the siege imposed on the Yemeni people for 12 years, and the resulting and ongoing threat to the lives of civilians, and the worsening humanitarian conditions left by these crimes, especially on women, as the number of female victims since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen has reached more than six thousand martyred and wounded.

It demanded ensuring accountability and reckoning for grave violations of international humanitarian law, and not allowing the perpetrators of these violations to escape punishment.

The Entisaf Organization called for the protection of civilians and civilian objects, strict adherence to the principles of distinction and proportionality, the provision of urgent medical care to the injured, and ensuring the rights of victims’ families to know the truth and obtain justice and reparation.

It renewed its call on the United Nations and international bodies concerned with human rights to document the crime and other violations affecting civilians in Yemen, and to take the necessary legal measures against the Saudi aggression and its mercenaries.

The organization pointed out that the blood of civilians is not just numbers, and that protecting women, children, the elderly, and all civilians is a legal and moral obligation that may not be diminished under any pretext.
