Gaza Civil Defense: 55 Bodies Recovered from Rubble of Building in Al-Zeitoun Neighborhood

Civil defense teams in the Gaza Strip managed to recover 55 bodies and remains of martyrs from under the rubble of a building belonging to the “Malka” family in the Al-Zeitoun area, east of Gaza City. The building had been sheltering approximately 60 people who had sought refuge there after being displaced from their homes out of fear of Israeli shelling nearly two years ago.

Colonel Mohammed Abu Dan, the supervisor of the martyrs’ body recovery project, said today, Thursday, that rescue teams continue their search operations for the third consecutive day for more than 60 bodies of members of the “Malka” family, noting that they have so far managed to recover most of the bodies, according to the Palestinian “Safa” news agency.

Abu Dan explained that the recovered bodies will be buried in a collective funeral procession early next week.

He pointed out that civil defense teams face significant challenges in recovering the martyrs due to the limited availability of heavy machinery and equipment needed to remove rubble and debris.

Abu Dan called on international humanitarian organizations and institutions to “intensify their efforts to provide modern bulldozers, excavators, and trucks, so that his teams can recover the largest possible number of missing bodies from under destroyed buildings.”
