Gaza Health Ministry: Over 20,000 patients await treatment abroad

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said more than 20,000 patients and injured individuals are waiting to travel for treatment, warning that the partial operation of the Rafah crossing is insufficient to address the humanitarian crisis.

The ministry highlighted that many cases are critical, including cancer, heart disease, kidney failure, and severe injuries requiring advanced surgery unavailable in Gaza due to the blockade and repeated targeting of the health system.

Despite the partial reopening of Rafah on February 2, travel remains extremely limited, increasing suffering and delaying urgent medical care. The ministry called for the crossing to be fully and regularly opened, immediate evacuation of critically ill patients, and increased travel numbers to match medical needs.

It urged international and humanitarian bodies to act to protect patients’ right to treatment, stressing that further delays threaten more lives.
