Thousands of Palestinians perform Ramadan prayers at al-Aqsa under Israeli restrictions

Thousands of Palestinians performed on Wednesday and Taraweeh prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyards on Wednesday, marking the first night of the holy month of Ramadan, despite tight restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities.

Israeli forces enforced strict measures, preventing young men from entering through Bab al-Silsila ahead of the prayers.

Local sources reported that activist Mohammed Abu al-Hummus was detained at Bab Hutta and barred from entering the mosque.

At sunset, Israeli forces blocked the delivery of iftar meals, including those for Islamic Waqf staff, and restricted families carrying food.

In recent weeks, authorities escalated mass expulsions and “preventive” arrests, tightening controls on access to al-Aqsa and curbing Ramadan observances.

Observers say these measures aim to impose a new reality within al-Aqsa, reshaping the religious scene in ways that undermine the historic and legal status quo.
