Capital Sana’a: 168 Prisoners released under supervision of committee for addressing prisoners’ cases, mandated by Leader of Revolution
The Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoner Cases—tasked by the Leader of the Revolution and the Chairman of the Supreme Political Council—has overseen the release of an initial group of 168 prisoners. These individuals were incarcerated due to private financial liabilities (debts owed to private parties). They are part of a larger group of 692 prisoners held for various offenses at the Central Correctional Facility in the Capital Secretariat.
During the release proceedings, the head of the committee, Sheikh Ali Qirsha, stated that the prisoners’ release was carried out in accordance with the directives of the Leader of the Revolution and the Chairman of the Supreme Political Council.
He noted that the cases and circumstances of the prisoners were thoroughly reviewed, and their situations were resolved in coordination with the relevant authorities and the claimants to whom the debts were owed.
Sheikh Qirsha pointed out that there are still other prisoners eligible for release who require financial assistance. He called upon benefactors to contribute toward the release of insolvent prisoners—many of whom have already served long periods of detention—thereby embodying the values of social solidarity and rehabilitation encouraged by the Islamic faith.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Al-Houri, Deputy Director of the Central Correctional Facility in the Capital Secretariat, described the release of this first group as more than just a procedural discharge; he characterized it as the beginning of a new hope and an opportunity for the individuals to set their lives on a better path.
He further emphasized the importance of such significant initiatives, which bolster rehabilitation and reform efforts while contributing to the resolution of prisoners’ cases within the established legal framework.
Speaking on behalf of the released prisoners, Afif Al-Shahari expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the Committee for Addressing Prison and Prisoner Issues—tasked by the Leader of the Revolution and the President of the Supreme Political Council—which succeeded in resolving their various cases.
In a statement, the Committee announced the release of 168 prisoners—incarcerated due to private financial liabilities—out of a total of 692 inmates held for various reasons at the Central Correctional Facility in the capital, Sana’a.
The Committee noted that it prioritized those who had served long sentences, ranging from five to 29 years.
It further indicated that it has been operating across several governorates, with its efforts over the past year resulting in the release of 7,578 prisoners in 13 governorates, including 1,168 individuals held in cases involving private financial claims.
The statement called upon those with outstanding financial claims against any of the inmates to consider granting pardon and forgiveness—an act that restores lives and earns divine reward—and encouraged them to visit the correctional facility to help facilitate the release of these individuals.
