Expert and professor of international law, Mohammed Mahmoud Mehran, affirmed that the assassination of the Director of Public Relations at the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, Mohammed Fawaz Al-Wahidi, in an airstrike carried out by Israeli enemy aircraft, constitutes a “systematic war crime” aimed at undermining the will of civilian resilience in the Gaza Strip.
Mehran explained in a statement to Shehab News Agency on Wednesday that the operation was not a random incident, but came within the framework of systematic targeting, pointing out that its timing—while the Egyptian Committee was preparing public viewing areas for the Egypt-Argentina World Cup match—reflects a “deliberate message to spoil the joy of Gaza’s residents.”
He stressed that targeting humanitarian workers violates the rules of international humanitarian law, noting that the drone’s pursuit of Al-Wahidi after he survived the first strike confirms the existence of prior criminal intent.
Mehran pointed out that targeting relief and civilian workers is part of a pattern of attacks that have affected individuals working in humanitarian, medical, and media fields in Gaza, calling for an international investigation and the submission of the case file to the International Criminal Court.
The Israeli enemy drone had targeted Al-Wahidi’s vehicle near Barcelona Park in Gaza City, before pursuing him and striking him again on Al-Maghribi Street in the Al-Sabra neighborhood, resulting in his martyrdom alongside the martyrs Hamza Abdullah Al-Deiri and Ahmed Jihad Daghmoush.
